National Calls

Every valid phone number in Mexico contains ten digits: a three digit area code + a seven digit number.
Mexico City is the exception with a two digit area code (55) and an eight digit number.

For a local call dial the seven digit number.

For a long distance national call dial 01 + area code ( (large file - be patient!!!) + number.

To call a cell phone in the same area code dial 044 + area code + number.

To call a cell phone in a different area code dial 045 + area code + number.

note: If you get an "afuera de servicio" message, it can mean anything from the number you are trying to reach is out of credit, switched off or simply is really afuerea de servicio (out of range).

Area Code from Playa del Carmen to Tulum is 984.

Area Code from Cancún to Puerto Morelos is 998.

Area Code for Cozumel is 987.

Examples
If you are in Playa del Carmen and want to place a call to Tulum you only have to dial a seven digit number for a local phone call.
IIf you want to call Cozumel from Playa del Carmen you will have to dial 01 + 987 + number.

International Calls

For an international phone call dial 00 + country code + area code + number.

To call the US or Canada dial 00 + 1 + area code + number.

To call a 1-800 number in the US or Canada dial 00 + 1 + 880 + number. This call will be charged

Receiving Phone Calls

Call a local landline from the US or Canada: Dial 011 + 52 + area code + number

Call a cell phone from the US or Canada: 011 + 52 + 1 + area code + number
